It's Over

A friend from work lost her battle with cancer this morning. Her battle first began in the summer of 2002 (shortly before I met her) resulting in a mastectomy and chemo but it intensified in the last 2 years with the cancer reemerging on the other side then moving to the nerve around her hip then to her kidneys and finally the liver.

I last saw her earlier this month on one of her last days to work. Yesterday, she married the man she's been with for the last 2 years. This morning she was in a coma and never woke up.

We're waiting for more details on the funeral and our principal told us today that she'll work to get coverage of classes for those of us who knew her as more than an acquaintance.

My friend talked with me quite a bit at the end of last school year about getting a voluntary double mastectomy before cancer has a chance to hit me. (it runs in my family) I told her I'd think about it. If she had done that, she would likely still be here.

Cancer sucks.
